4.2.4 Folded and Flattened Style

4.2.4 Folded and Flattened Style

Taking the flattened camellia as an example. After changing colors, this flattening technique can be applied to flower types with larger individual petals, such as peonies, Chinese peonies, roses, etc.

Production Steps

01 Arrange the threads as shown. Use 15 sets of thread. Velvet row width is 5.5cm. Copper wire spacing is 1.2cm. Use 0.2mm copper wire to make the velvet strips.

02 If the velvet strips can be made neat, clean, and of uniform thickness, they can be folded in half and coiled directly without trimming. If you are just practicing and the strips are not aesthetically pleasing, it is recommended to trim them by referring to the shape of the five-petal flower in the basic flower styles.

03 Heat the flattening clamp and press the petal flat from the base to the tip. The flattened petal is shown in the diagram.

04 Important: Do not press the clamp directly down from the top of the petal. Always start from the base and move upwards. Otherwise, the petal texture will be messed up.

(Text in diagram: Bend inward, arc should be natural; Bend outward, arc should be natural)

05 Apply setting liquid agent (or hairspray).

06 Wait a moment for the hairspray to react slightly, then, while it's still tacky (not fully dry), bend the petal from the base to the middle section inward.

07 Flip the section from the middle to the tip outward.

08 Flip the two side edges of the petal outward. (Text in diagram: Use tweezers to flip the side edges outward; Tuck both sides inward)

09 Tuck the bottom two sides of the petal inward.

10 The shaped petal is shown in the diagram. The principle of steps 06~09 is to shape the petals while the hairspray is still tacky, commonly known as "wet shaping".

(Text in diagram: Make a small notch here, smooth it out; Also smooth the edges)

11 After the petal is completely dry, create a small notch in the center of the petal. Then smooth out the notch, and also trim the entire petal edge smooth.

12 Combine with the flower stamens. Use three petals as a group for the inner layer, and five petals as a group for the outer layer.

13 Combine with the previously made unidirectionally flattened leaves. Use a total of 4 leaves.

14 Wind down about 4cm, then fold back and wrap with thread.

15 Combine with the hairpin.

16 The flattened-style camellia is complete.
