Practical Techniques—How to Make Filigree Ronghua Petals - Handcraft Ronghua Tutorial

Below are some practical techniques I've summarized for making Ronghua. You can use them as a reference.

How to Make Filigree Ronghua Petals
Filigree is a traditional craft that involves bending and twisting gold, silver, or other metal wires into patterns according to a design, and then fixing them onto objects. Filigree Ronghua combine this traditional filigree technique with the flat Ronghua-making technique, adding gold edges to the Ronghua, making them look more luxurious and elegant.

1

1. Draw the Petal Pattern: Draw a petal pattern that does not exceed the size of the velvet piece you are using. Prepare a piece of color-preserving copper wire twisted into a braid-like shape.

2

2. Bend the Copper Wire: Bend the copper wire into the shape shown in the image above. To create curves, you can use tools; use wide tweezers to grip the wire at the bends and then fold it. During the process, compare with the pattern frequently to adjust the shape of the wire. Once adjusted, fix both ends of the wire with silk thread.

3. Apply Glue: Evenly apply B-7000 glue to one side of the copper wire, then adhere the wire to the velvet piece.

4

4. Secure with Flat Iron: Use a flat iron to clamp the copper wire, ensuring it sticks firmly to the velvet piece.

5

5. Trim Excess Velvet: Cut off any excess velvet around the wire. A filigree Ronghua petal is now complete.
