How to Make Orchid Hair Comb - Handcraft Ronghua Tutorial
Orchids symbolize purity and elegance in China and are known as one of the "Four Gentlemen" along with plum, bamboo, and chrysanthemum. Many Chinese literary works also describe orchids, such as "The fragrance of the orchid will never change, and its heart remains unmoved" and "Finding the secluded orchid, I know a confidant, a single branch sent to Dream of Xiang." In this case, we use "orchid" as the creative element for Ronghua ornaments, designing and making a plush hair comb.

A. Preparing Velvet Strips

1. Prepare the velvet strips for leaves and petals, making both leaves and flowers with gradient effects. The velvet strips for leaves should be about 8mm wide, and those for petals should be narrower, about 3-4mm wide.
B. Shaping and Styling the Velvet
Display the process of changing the shape of the petal and leaf velvet strips.
2. Trim the petal velvet strips. The dark end is the top of the petal, and the light end is the base. Trim the base narrower and longer than the top so that the finished flower will have an open appearance. Trim the leaf velvet strips, with the light end being the tip of the leaf, making it narrower and sharper than the dark end.

3. Use five petal velvet strips as a group. First, set the highest point (the petal tip) with one strip, then symmetrically decrease the height from the middle to the sides, and fix them to create one petal. Making a fully bloomed orchid requires six petals.

4. Prepare another five petals in the same way, and also prepare the plaster stamens.

5. Combine the six petals and plaster stamens, fix them, and use tweezers to adjust the shape of the petals to make them turn outward, creating a fully bloomed flower.

6. Prepare half-drilled round beads, color-preserving copper flower caps, rice beads, and 0.8mm copper wire. Dip the copper wire in a small amount of white glue, fix the wire to the half-drilled round beads, then string the color-preserving copper flower caps and rice beads in sequence. Finally, wrap the copper wire with silk thread (serving both as decoration and for securing).

7. Using the method described above, prepare six bead strings with different sizes of half-drilled round beads, one large flower, one small flower (made with three or four petals), and ten leaf velvet strips.

8. Arrange all the prepared components together to determine the final design and the positions of each part, then separate and handle the parts that need to be fixed individually, as shown in the picture above.

9. Once the individually fixed components are arranged together, determine the approximate position of each part, then fix them in layers. After securing them, choose a main accessory to attach and complete the hair comb.
