2.3 Three-Petal Chanhua Flower Making Tips

1. Prepare a piece of 0.4mm diameter copper wire, three pieces of Chanhua cardstock templates, and silk threads. The petal consists of three parts, distinguished below as templates No. 1, No. 2, and No. 3.

2. Take template No. 2, place the copper wire against the center of its back, add the silk thread, and pinch it all together with your fingertips.

3. Wrap twice at the corner where the copper wire meets the cardstock tip, then continue wrapping the entire No. 2 template. After that, wrap about 2mm along the copper wire.

4. Add template No. 3 onto the copper wire and wrap the entire No. 3 template.

5. Fold templates No. 2 and No. 3 together so they align, and wrap the thread around the two ends of the copper wire twice to secure them.

6. Add template No. 1 onto the now-joined copper wire ends. Note that the inner curve of the cardstock should face the wrapped part. Place both copper wire ends against the back of template No. 1 simultaneously.

7. Wrap the entire No. 1 template.

8. Hold the remaining thread and gently bend the wrapped pieces into a three-petal flower shape.

9. Using tweezers, guide the remaining thread from the back of the flower, passing it through the gap between templates No. 2 and No. 3, and pull it out.

10. Pull the thread tight and wrap it a short distance along the copper wire to secure.

11. Apply a small amount of white glue to the end of the wrapped thread for reinforcement (if concerned about slipping, tie a knot at the thread end before applying the white glue). Use scissors to cut off any excess thread.

12. Use pliers to gently pinch and shape the two ends of the petals.

13. The three-petal Chanhua flower is now complete.
