Practical Techniques—Techniques for Trimming Velvet Pieces - Handcraft Ronghua Tutorial

Below are some practical techniques I've summarized for making Ronghua. You can use them as a reference.

Techniques for Trimming Velvet Pieces

A. Trimming Regular Flat Velvet Pieces

The trimming method for all regular flat velvet pieces is the same: first trim out the general outline, then refine the details according to the specific characteristics of the item being made.
For example, when trimming a rose leaf:

  • 1. First, create a flat velvet leaf.
  • 2. Trim it into the basic leaf shape.
  • 3. Cut out the serrated edges of the rose leaf.
  • 4. Combine three small leaves to form a compound leaf.

B. Trimming Specially Shaped Flat Velvet Pieces
For specially shaped velvet pieces, you can draw the pattern first and then trim it accordingly.
For example, when making butterfly wings:

  • 1. Draw the pattern of the butterfly wings on paper.
  • 2. Cut out the pattern and place it on the prepared velvet piece.
  • 3. Trim the velvet piece to match the butterfly wing pattern.
