How to Make a Hydrangea Chanhua

In the previous section, the single-petal daisy made from card paper was introduced as a typical example. In addition to single-petal card paper flowers, some special flowers require multiple pieces of card paper to form one petal. The number and type of card paper needed for the petals, as well as the winding sequence, vary for different flowers. This section will introduce the methods for making three types of multi-petal card paper flowers.

4.2.1 Making a Hydrangea

The Chanhua hydrangea is composed of several small hydrangea flowers, each consisting of four groups of petals, with each group containing two symmetrical petals. This section will introduce the two-piece winding technique.

A. Materials and Tools: White card paper, carbon pen, scissors, gradient-colored silk threads, No.30 silk mesh flower wire, 2mm diameter decorative pearls

B. Making the Hydrangea:

1

1. Use a carbon pen to draw the petal patterns on the white card paper, dividing each petal in half. Cut them out with scissors and arrange them as shown in the picture.

2                                                      3

2. Take a twisted silk thread, split it, and then combine the split threads. Hold a small amount of silk thread and a wire in your left hand, leaving about 5cm of length on the right side.

3. Wrap the silk thread from left to right for about 1cm, then wrap from right to left, completely covering the portion wrapped from left to right. Bend the reserved wire into a loop to facilitate winding. After winding the wire, add the card paper and continue winding.

4

4. After winding one piece of card paper, add the second piece, ensuring it meets end-to-end with the first piece without leaving any gaps. Combine the two pieces after winding, and wrap the intersection of the wires with silk threads a few times to fix them.

5

5. Refer to steps 3 and 4, and sequentially add the white card paper until all four groups of petals are wrapped.

6

6. Bend one of the two wires at the base of the flower upwards, thread a 2mm diameter decorative pearl, pull the wire tight in the opposite direction, and bend it back to the base of the flower to fix the pearl.

7

7. Repeat the above steps to make several small hydrangea flowers. Combine and fix the wires at the base of these small hydrangea flowers into a cluster to complete the hydrangea.
