3.1.5 How to Sharpen Scissors

Steps for Sharpening Scissors

01. Prepare a whetstone with a grit rating between 1000 and 3000. Ensure the surface of the whetstone is flat.

02. Find the correct angle to sharpen the cutting edge. Press down on the side with the acute-angle edge line and push forward. Water the whetstone if it becomes too dry.

(Image note: Press and push forward; Bevel (cutting surface); Press the side with the acute-angle line downwards.)

03. Flip the scissors over. Lay the bevel (cutting edge) flat against the whetstone and gently pull backwards to remove any burrs.

(Image note: Area on the bevel where burrs may be present; Keep the surface flush and pull backwards gently.)

04. While removing burrs, also aim to create a uniform edge line along the inside of the blade.

Tip:
Avoid sharpening the scissors yourself unless absolutely necessary, as it is easy to damage the blade.
