4.1 How to Make A Chanhua Rose Hairpin - Jinfeng Yulu

1. Prepare the templates for petals and leaves. You will need three sets of leaves and two flowers.

2. Use the double-sided gold edge wrap technique to make the leaves. Wrap all the needed petals and set them aside.

3. Pass the copper wire through a round bead. Fold the wire in half at the middle.

4. Pass the folded wire through two opposite holes of a copper flower base. Pull it tight.

5. Bring the two wires together. Use pliers to help twist them tight. This secures the base and the flower center.

6. Use pliers to bend the copper stamen strands that are spaced apart. Bend them so they lie against the round bead, wrapping around it.

7. Then, bend another third of the copper stamen strands. Bend them to about 1mm away from the first layer. This creates a layered look for the flower center.

8. Adjust the last third of the stamen strands the same way. Bend them to about 1mm away from the second layer. Your flower center is now ready.

9. Use round nose pliers to hold the tip of a petal. Gently curve the petal to give it a shape.

10. Curve all the heart-shaped petals the same way and set them aside.

11. Place a curved heart-shaped petal against the flower center. Use thread to tie and secure it.

12. Add the remaining two petals one by one. Adjust their positions to form a triangle shape, wrapping around the flower center.

13. Use round nose pliers to hold one side of a petal and curve it outward. Curve the other side the same way to make it symmetrical.

14. Make five outward-curved petals this way and set them aside.

15. To assemble, attach the petals at a slight angle against the flower center. Arranging them at slightly different heights makes the flower look more layered.

16. Add the remaining petals one by one, also at a slight angle. Overlap each petal slightly over the previous one.

17. After tying all the petals, adjust the shape. One flower is now complete.

18. Use the same method to make two flowers. You can make more or fewer flowers based on your preference.

19. On the flower stem, choose a good spot and add the first set of leaves. Tie them on.

20. Add the other flower to the front of the main stem. This creates a nice balance with the flower placed sideways above.

21. Also tie the other two sets of leaves to the side of the stem. Adjust the curve of the stem. A smooth, flowing stem makes the piece look more lively.

22. Attach the third set of leaves. Choose a hairpin base that matches the flower stem and get ready to assemble.

23. Use thread to tie the flower stem securely to the hairpin base. Keep the thread neat and flat while wrapping.

24. After securing to the base, pass the thread end through the copper wire and pull it out. This creates a hidden finish.

25. Use scissors to cut off any extra thread.

26. Your "Jinfeng Yulu" rose ear scoop hairpin is now complete.
