2.8 Chanhua Petal Dyeing Techniques

1. Prepare dyeing pigments, water brushes, clean water, and absorbent cotton cloth. Pigment options include pearlescent solid watercolors, acid dyes, and others.

2. Wrap the petals according to your project needs and set them aside.

3. Soak the wrapped petals in clean water for about ten seconds, thoroughly wetting all the thread wrapped around the cardstock.

4. Remove the petals and place them on an absorbent cotton cloth to remove excess moisture.

5. Add clean water to the solid pigment, dilute it, and stir until well mixed.

6. Use a water brush to dip into the pigment and apply it to the edges of the petals.

7. Dip the water brush into clean water and gradually blend the pigment from the edges downward, creating a natural gradient transition.

8. Once the desired gradient effect is achieved, place the dyed petals on a wooden drying rack to air dry naturally.

9. After drying, a beautifully dyed petal is complete.
