6.1 Complex Velvet Flower Style - Ronghua Peony

Compared to the flattened peony from the previous chapter, the creation of a fluffy peony demands higher skill from the maker. In the processes of meticulously trimming the velvet strip shapes, skillfully adhering them, and carefully assembling the pieces, each step requires immense attention to detail and patience. Only then can a perfect flower form be achieved—one that is full and voluminous yet light and airy, without losing its sense of opulence.

01 The color arrangements for the two velvet rows are as shown, both using 0.2mm copper wire.
- Small velvet row: 7 thread groups, velvet row width 3.2cm, wire spacing 3mm.
- Large velvet row: 9 thread groups, velvet row width 4.5cm, wire spacing 3mm.
02 Trim the velvet strips into the shapes shown.

- Petal type 2: Use small velvet strips, all other spacing is 2mm
- Petal type 3: Use large velvet strips, all other spacing is 2mm

04 Each Petal type 3 piece has a slightly different form; see the diagram above.
05 Assemble the petals with the flower stamens. Place 3 Petal type 1 pieces on the first layer.
06 Second layer: Place 3 Petal type 2 pieces sequentially in the gaps of the first layer.
07 Third layer: Place the 6 Petal type 3 pieces sequentially. You can appropriately extend the petals outward by a few millimeters to elongate them, visually enlarging the petals.
08 The color arrangement for the leaves is as shown. Usage is 7 thread groups for both, velvet row width 3.5cm, wire spacing 3mm. You can use 0.2mm or 0.18mm copper wire.
09 The arrangement order and data for the velvet strips of the small leaves are as shown. Adhere them after arranging.
10 The arrangement order and data for the velvet strips of the large leaves are as shown. Adhere them after arranging.

11 The quantity and assembly method for the large and small leaves used in this example are shown in the left diagram.
12 You can take out the small five-petal, thin velvet strip adhered flower made in a previous chapter and first combine it with the leaves.
13 Then combine it with the large flower.
14 Place another small leaf below the large flower.
15 Prepare the main body/hairpin base.
16 Combine with the main body/hairpin base, also securing a binding wire at the bottom.
17 The fluffy style Peony is now complete.
