5.1 Complex Style Flattened Ronghua Form - Rose

The roses we commonly see today are actually mostly modern garden roses (hybrid teas, etc.). Since both share the English name "rose," they are often translated as such. As a world-renowned ornamental plant, it is often meticulously cultivated in gardens, becoming a beautiful scenic feature. Incorporating flattened velvet strips into the rose further endows the flower with a unique texture and color.

Making Steps

01 The rose is a large flower type, with complex color arrangement and material usage. Therefore, we designate the velvet rows from left to right (small to large) as a, b, c, d, all using 0.2mm copper wire for the framework.

  • a: Quantity 10 sets. Velvet row width 3.5cm, wire spacing 1cm.
  • b: Quantity 12 sets. Velvet row width 4cm, wire spacing 1.3cm.
  • c: Quantity 15 sets. Velvet row width 5cm, wire spacing 1.5cm.
  • d: Quantity 20 sets. Velvet row width 6.5cm, wire spacing 1.8cm.

Once the velvet strips are confirmed to be clean and even, they can be directly folded in half and flattened without trimming. If the velvet strips are uneven, they will need to be trimmed smooth.

02 After shaping petal set 'a' with setting water, while it is still wet, use tweezers to curl the petal edge inward and then fold the very edge under.

03 The shaped 'a' petal is shown as follows.

04 Prepare a total of 7 'a' petals. After all petals are completely dry, use scissors to trim off any fringe from the edges.

05 After shaping petal set 'b' with setting water, while it is still wet, use tweezers to curl the petal edge inward, fold the very edge under, and flip the top outward.

06 The shaped 'b' petal is shown as follows. After the petals are completely dry, use scissors to trim off any fringe from the edges.

07 Prepare a total of 5 'b' petals.

08 After shaping petal set 'c' with setting water, while it is still wet, use tweezers to curl the petal edge inward and then flip both sides of the edge outward.

09 The shaped 'c' petal is shown as follows. After the petals are completely dry, use scissors to trim off any fringe from the edges.

10 Prepare a total of 5 'c' petals. Petal set 'd' uses the same shaping technique as 'c'. Make 6 pieces.

11 First, take the smallest 'a' petals and wrap three of them together in a rotating manner, one overlapping the other, to complete the first layer.

12 Place 4 'a' petals for the second layer, and 5 'b' petals for the third layer.

13 Place 5 'c' petals for the fourth layer.

14 Place 6 'd' petals for the fifth layer. If after placement the petals lack sufficient curvature, you can moisten them with 95% alcohol to continue adjusting the shape.

15 The adjusted final shape is shown as follows.

16 Prepare 3 leaves. (The leaves used are the color-mixed and blended leaves from Chapter 4.)

17 Combine the flower and the leaves.

18 Combine the entire flower assembly with the wooden hairpin.

19 Construction complete.
